See's Candies makes boxed chocolates and lollipops sold largely through its own black-and-white shops on the US West Coast, with a product range and store design deliberately little changed over decades. Charles See founded the business in Los Angeles in 1921, naming it for his mother Mary. Berkshire Hathaway acquired it in 1972, and Warren Buffett has repeatedly cited the purchase as formative.
