About me
Toshi Francis is an award-winning mental health powerhouse who currently provides therapy to children and adults in the New York City/ New Jersey area. She has impacted and changed the lives of many through the personal touch she adds to her professional care. As a therapist, mother, and entrepreneur she is putting no limits on where she can go, or who she will impact. Her love for helping others is the foundation she stands on.
Her upbringing is one of the biggest influencers on her career path. Toshi’s parents instilled many Jamaican values into her early on, including the motto of work first, fun later. With helping out with the family business she gained other tools to use in her professional life, especially as it relates to being effective with clients. Toshi Francis has witnessed numerous patients turn their lives around after mental illness and substance abuse. Working to leave a legacy to show other young people, especially girls, that they can do whatever they want in their lives, she spends each day working to change everyone around her for the better.
Toshi graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and a minor in business administration. After graduating from CAU, Toshi decided to work on her entrepreneurial skills and helped to run her family’s restaurant. She knew she wanted to be a part of the mental health field, so within a year of graduating from CAU Toshi was accepted into Adelphi University’s MSW program. She graduated from the program in 2008, at the age of 23, and with honors. She went on to gain vital career experience before enrolling in the Ph.D. program at Capella University, where her major is I/O psychology. That includes ventures such as working as a therapist, as well as a professor. She is presently a Ph.D. candidate working on her dissertation, which explores the experience of Caribbean women.Toshi Francis continues to look for ways to expand her reach and make a true difference.
