Stunning and versatile, film, television and stage veteran actor Paula Newsome, best known for her breakout roles in "NCIS," "Transparent," and "How to Get Away with Murder," is a force to be reckoned with and will soon take over television sets as the fierce and fragile 'Detective Janice Moss' who becomes Henry Winkler's love interest in HBO's new, highly-anticipated dark comedy series created by comedian/actor Bill Hader and Alec Berg ("Seinfeld"). "Barry" stars Bill Hader in the titular role as a depressed, low-rent hitman from the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied, he reluctantly travels to Los Angeles to execute a hit on an aspiring actor. Barry follows his "mark" into acting class and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the Los Angeles theater scene. New episodes of "Barry" air Sunday nights at 10:30 pm on HBO. Here is the trailer.
If that wasn't enough, it was announced that Newsome is set to star as series regular in the NBC drama pilot "Suspicion," created and written by Jessica Goldberg ("The Path") and based on the book of the same name by Joseph Finder. Described as a "Hitchcockian thriller," "Suspicion" is about how far one man will go to save the people he loves. Danny Goldman (Derek Luke) accepts a handshake loan from his new friend and millionaire neighbor, he gets a visit from the FBI and learns that the decision is one he will regret for the rest of his life. Coerced to work as an informant for the FBI to earn back his freedom, Danny is forced to infiltrate a world of violence and corruption while trying to protect his family.
Born and raised in Chicago, Newsome developed a passion for the arts in community and regional theater as a child. She attended Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri and earned her degree in Musical Theatre, before moving to New York City to pursue her dreams. A triple threat, Newsome was cast in a number of Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, before making her big screen debut opposite Dolly Parton in the romantic comedy STRAIGHT TALK. She made numerous guest star appearances on notable television series some of which include "Suits," "Transparent," "Pretty Little Liars," "Chicago Hope," "NCIS," "Suburgatory," and most notably "How to Get Away with Murder" opposite Viola Davis, among many more. Newsome co-starred with Mark Feuerstein and Lauren Graham in the NBC sitcom "Conrad Bloom" and alongside Angie Harmon, Laura Harris and Aubrey Dollar in the ABC police drama "Women's Murder Club." She also starred in recurring roles on "City of Angels" opposite Viola Davis, Gabrielle Union and Vivica A. Fox. On the big screen, Newsome has appeared in GUESS WHO opposite Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE, BLACK OR WHITE and REIGN OVER ME alongside Don Cheadle, Adam Sandler, and Jada Pinkett Smith.
When Newsome is not in front of the camera, she devotes her rare free time to helping foster care children recover from trauma through Somatic Experiencing therapy, baking (she makes incredible ribs and princess torte!), Pilates, and is currently writing a book on relationship advice set to release soon! She also loves to travel around the world and recently took a solo trip to Italy for 3 months learning how to speak the language and culture. She is fluent in Italian, French, and Korean.
