About me
Award-winning community leader Rose Padilla Johnson has managed operations at San Leandro, California’s Davis Street Community Center as chief executive officer since 1991. Under her guidance, the Davis Street Community Center provides residents of the Eden neighborhood with health and family services, economic support, and housing resources in an effort to enhance overall quality of life for underserved populations. Over the last three decades, Johnson has grown the Davis Street center from a $380,000 agency to a $10.5 million operation. The organization supports 15,000 individuals every year, 6,000 of whom rely on Davis Street for food. Child care services are provided to some 1,200 daily.
Johnson began her career working with in-need immigrant families throughout Alameda County. Beyond her activities with the Davis Street Community Center, she engages with various community organizations, including her local Rotary Club. She has led the club as president and currently functions as administrator of the RotaCare Free Medical Clinic.
