Having recently accepted a position with the University of Chicago as senior ethics fellow, Dr. Sabha Ganai is a surgical oncologist with an extensive background treating gastrointestinal malignancies and peritoneal carcinomatosis. A particular focus of Dr. Sabha Ganai over the course of her career has been in researching cancer care disparities, and she is a Gold Foundation Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award recipient.
As director of gastrointestinal oncology with Southern Illinois University from 2013 to 2018, Dr. Ganai provided surgical services and also chaired the Resident Education Cancer Committee. She earned recognition as Outstanding Surgical Educator of the Year in 2014 and received the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract Health Care Disparities Research Award in 2016.
Dr. Ganai has authored numerous papers in her field, including “Impact of Rurality on National Trends in Thyroid Cancer Incidence and Long-Term Survival” (Journal of Rural Health, 2019). Also in 2019, her paper “Disparities in long-term radiographic follow-up after cystectomy for bladder cancer: Analysis of the SEER-Medicare database” was published in the Urology Annals.
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Sabha Ganai is active with numerous professional organizations, including the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus.
