As millennials, we are lost searching for what love actually means. We mistake lust with being in love with someone. We value attention over affection. We think commitment is the equivalent to desperation. We talk with each other but we don’t communicate. We spend time together but we don’t connect. We want to be in control and we want to have the upper hand. We are stingy with our heart and careless with others’. We see vulnerability as weakness.
We break promises. We break hearts. And we are broken.
The difficult truth is that love is a choice. We choose the person we want to be with. We pick the one we want to dedicate our time and effort to. We choose who we want to place our hopes on. We choose to make a relationship work or just sabotage it. We choose our own love story. Because at the end of the day, we are the creators of our own faith.
The difficult truth is that love alone isn’t enough. Love is not the foundation of relationships. We can love someone deeply but that does not make them right for us because relationships are not love based. Relationships are built based on respect and trust. Relationships last with mutual investment. And love makes it worthwhile. Love makes pain, heartbreak and disappointment bearable.
Love makes the world turn around. Love puts life into perspective. And love makes us better people.
The difficult truth is that love is chaotic. Love can go from the best feeling ever to the worst. Love can make our cheeks hurt from smiling like it can make our eyes ball-out tears you forgot you had. And love can make us see the world in colors and it can make us want to lay on bed all day. Love constantly changes its nature but it should never change its direction. There are no guarantees when it comes to love. It’s about taking risks. It’s about living outside your comfort zone. It’s about losing yourself in hopes to find yourself.
The difficult truth is that love is un-measurable. We cannot truly put love into words because that takes away from the meaning of love. We cannot measure the way we feel about someone because that would give it limitation. Love is more than just explanation. Love goes beyond imagination. Love is timeless.
The difficult truth is that love isn't easy to find. Nowadays, love is becoming an uncommon phenomenon. To love and be loved back by the same person is a miracle. To find a partner who shares our understanding of what love means is a blessing. And to be able to share all that love with everyone else is a gift.
