The Problem Solvers of Tomorrow

As days go on problems just seem to be increasing. But we can't say the same for the solutions to these problems. As more problems arise, less solutions rise to the surface. But do not fear! At our own school, members of the Gifts of Awesome club are trying to make the world better by trying to find those much needed solutions. Yuki, a student at Brooklyn Technical Highschool and a member of Gifts of Awesome, is trying to better the lives of the homeless women of New York City by collecting menstruation pads to donate to them. She says, "Menstruation and the need for menstruation pads is a hard topic to talk about, there's a lot of stigma surrounding the topic, it's very hard for them, so I felt it was important to face the issue facing homeless women." Yuki plans to initiate her campaign, called PadPals, first at school by asking the students of such a large school to help. Another member, Nafisa Azizi, is helping the world become a better place for everyone through her project BRIGHT which helps patients at various hospitals by organizing a group of students to do activities with them such as storytelling. She says, “The people at the hospital are depressed and sad and through my project I want them to feel better and heal emotionally not just physically…” Nafisa Azizi isn’t the only one trying to better the world. Two friends, Sumer Sen and Devansh Uhar, are trying to help out the children of developing countries like India and Nepal with their education by bringing to them solar powered lamps which are brighter than the candles that those children use and do not require electricity. When asked about where they received the Inspiration for Lights for Education, their project, they said, “We want to educate and help the children of these developing countries. We saw that these children do not have the electricity to study and so they are left to using kerosene lamps which can be harmful to the body in the long term. So knowing all this we wanted to create something that would help them achieve a brighter future.” Wow, a brighter future indeed. These students are the problem solvers of tomorrow. Soon we will see that as problems arise so do the solutions to those problems.
