An experienced public school superintendent, Rebecca Lowry has served as an administrator with the Cleveland Municipal School District and Dayton Public Schools in Ohio. Now working with Cumberland Therapies in the Dayton area, Rebecca Lowry also brings her experience serving as a school psychologist to her current position.
Often overlooked, school psychologists are a valuable component of the school environment. Aside from providing educational, behavioral, and mental health services directly to enrolled children, school psychologists also coordinate with families, school administrators, and educators to help facilitate an appropriate and supportive learning environment for all students.
In many school districts, there is not enough funding to hire an adequate number of school psychologists for the student population. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) urges state and federal lawmakers to include funding for the expansion of school psychologist positions in any educational-reform legislation. Also, NASP advocates for increased participation from qualified school psychologists in the development of academic interventions, anti-bullying programs, and crisis-prevention and response efforts.
