#ReadMyLips President Trump Must Uphold and Respect Supreme Courts Decision in Obergefell v. Hodges
I hope that President Trump will respect and uphold the Supreme Court's decision in Obergefell v. Hodges which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide because the legalization of same-sex marriage promotes nationwide equality. Furthermore, the legalization of same-sex marriage promotes equality because it provides the equal rights of opposite-sex couples to same-sex couples and weakens discrimination against LGBTQ individuals nationwide. Preventing same sex couples from marriage denies LGBTQ individuals many of the rights that married individuals receive. For example, once a man and women become married they receive state tax reductions, the right to change a name, the right to spousal support, and the right to bring a wrongful death action. Thus, denying same sex couples marriage is essentially denying LGBTQ individuals these rights which is unequal and unconstitutional because no minority should be denied their American rights. In addition, denying same-sex marriage promotes discrimination because it sends a message to many that traditional marriage is allowed and same-sex marriage is not, and therefore traditional marriage is better which is false and misleading because both opposite sex marriages and same sex marriages are representative of a love between two people. In conclusion, President Trump must uphold the courts decision in Obergefell v. Hodges because the legalization of same-sex marriage promotes equality and prevents discrimination against LGBTQ individuals.
