#ReadMyLips I Hope the INSPIRE Women Act Will Inspire Similar Acts of Progress

Dear President Trump,

I appreciate your support of women in STEM and Entrepreneurship.

The INSPIRE Women Act sheds light on the omnipresent discrimination that capable women face in male-dominated fields such as science and business, and in doing so it has the power to correct gender bias in the workplace.

I hope that this is a step towards encouraging women in ALL fields to showcase their talents and to receive the recognition that they deserve for their accomplishments.

However, there is just one issue with such a strong display of encouragement of female independence: it is contradictory to your movement towards restricting women’s control over reproduction.

If women are to be trusted with sending human beings out of this world, then surely they can be trusted to make sensible decisions about bringing human beings into this world.

Moreover, if the amount of female workers increases, and all women who become pregnant are forced to deliver their children, productivity in the workplace could suffer due to maternity leave.

This brings me to my next point.

I applaud your plan to give women six weeks of paid maternity leave. I am not a mother, so I cannot say whether or not this is enough time, but I hope that this idea will come to fruition.

I also hope to see a plan for reducing the cost of maternity care, particularly if women will not be able to terminate their pregnancies.

Women may not always be able to predict when they will need maternity coverage, and they may not be able to apply for it in time.

I realize that the aforementioned issues have already been extensively discussed- I am simply adding my voice to the congregation of thousands of other voices echoing the same sentiments, with the hope that you will use your power to find ways to change the tone of our voices to a happier one.

Just as being a working professional in a civilized society is not mutually exclusive with being human, support of women in the workforce should not be mutually exclusive with support of women in the healthcare system.

I hope that the INSPIRE Women Act will inspire you to lead a free world.

Sincerely,

 Viktorya

Why hasn't the U.S. ratify CEDAW yet?

President Carter sent CEDAW to the U.S. Senate for advice and consent in 1980. It remains in the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. The Senate has held hearings on CEDAW five times in the past 25 years but failed each time to bring the treaty to a vote on the floor. Why?
Conservative organizations, such as the Home School Legal Defense Associationand Concerned Women for America, vehemently oppose the ratification of all human rights treaties. They insist that human rights treaties violate American sovereignty. Thirty-eight Republican senators demonstrated this last December, when they refused to join their more moderate colleagues in ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
CEDAW establishes the moral, civic and political equality of women and protects women's right to be free from discrimination and violence. Thanks to CEDAW, these values have diffused around the world.
Conservative critics are wrong when they claim that CEDAW reflects radical feminist views. In fact, a Republican woman, Nixon appointee Patricia Hutar, persuaded the United Nations to draft CEDAW. On January 30, 1974, President Nixon called for the U.S. government to commemorate International Women's Year at all levels.

Has anyone used an air fryer?

At first glance, deep fryers and air fryers seem quite similar. Both give regular food (such as veggies or pieces of meat) a delicious taste and crunchy exterior. However, the method a deep fryer uses (dunking food into a large amount of hot oil) is much different from that of an air fryer, which coats food with a little bit of oil then blasts it with hot air. If you love traditional fried food, the deep fryer could be your best bet. If you’re a bit more health conscious and want to achieve similar results without entirely giving up that distinctive fried taste and texture, an air fryer could be the optimal choice.
