At the UN Climate Change Conference COP21 in 2015, Philips pledged to play its part in fighting climate change. This resulted in the launch of a 5-year sustainability program called “Healthy people, sustainable planet”.
To achieve this, we’ll drive down carbon emissions in operations, logistics, and business travel by becoming more energy efficient. We’ll purchase our energy from renewable sources and compensate remaining emissions via carbon credits. In addition, we’ll recycle 90% of operational waste and aim to send zero waste to landfill.
All Philips’ US operations are powered by renewable electricity from the Los Mirasoles windfarm in Texas. In 2019, the Dutch windfarms Krammer and Bouwdokken were added thanks to a consortium between major companies. This allows us to cover more than half of the company’s total electricity demand.
“I am proud that our drive for innovation is having an impact on making the world healthier and more sustainable, and I am convinced that it will increasingly do so in the future”. Frans van Houtenn
