Philips leader Cindy Gaines among the most powerful women in health IT

Cindy Gaines is one of 50 women across the U.S. recognized for Health IT leadership

The role of health IT leaders has expanded tremendously in recent years, becoming increasingly demanding and complex. Facing a new world where consumer-savvy patients have increasing expectations and business leaders are navigating an evolving value-based care model, HIT vendors need to successfully deploy technology, and serve as an end-to-end partner to healthcare organizations to deliver comprehensive solutions to help them thrive in this new age. Success demands working alongside customers to tackle their most technical and strategic challenges, bridging a historic gap between vendor and provider.

Cindy has over thirty-two years of healthcare experience, splitting time between serving as a nurse, a president of administration, and an executive responsible for PHM at a large medical group in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was there that Cindy first partnered with Philips, witnessing the potential to make a true difference in patient care and the provider experience, leveraging health IT solutions designed with the user in mind. Her decision to join Philips was driven by her desire to improve care delivery on a bigger scale, and work with a variety of customers to develop innovative ways to accomplish ambitious goals.

One of the biggest challenges health IT leaders face today is to upend the tainted reputation technology has in many healthcare circles, oftentimes associated with increased administrative burdens and decreased face time with patients. With transparent recognition of the barriers to adopting health IT, Cindy works to ensure each deployment lives up to its promises with a well-planned strategy and a clear outcome in mind. As an influential leader, Cindy demonstrates how today’s health IT offers a more patient-centric design for personalized care, and offers actionable insights into patient risk to tailor PHM.

“Cindy understands the intricacies of our customers’ biggest pain points, having been on the front-line trenches of patient care and navigating the challenges of regulatory pressures and implementing technology,” said Niki Buchanan, General Manager, Philips Population Health Management, who nominated Cindy for the award. “This expertise is what makes Cindy a powerful force in the HIT industry. She truly serves as the voice of our customers within our executive team, and elevates the importance of health IT and the impact of regulation on operations in every conversation she has with hospital c-suites.”

Driven by this passion to help healthcare organizations transform how they manage and deliver care, Cindy Gaines, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Philips Population Health Management (PHM), has been recognized by Health Data Management as one of the country’s fifty most powerful women in health IT, and is among the fifteen women honored in the “HIT Vendor Executive” award category. Serving as CNO since February 2019, Cindy promotes the movement to value-based care and PHM among customers, and ensures their unique needs are communicated back to the support and development teams.
