Nature - Up Close and Personal

Atlanta, GA

The city in a forest; why do they call it that? I’ve lived in several cities in the US during my life of travel. When I arrive, the first thing I always notice is how nature has adapted to our human condition. We tend to think that with a few trees and flowering bushes planted around our dwellings, somehow, it’s enough to satisfy the nature in our hearts. But because we have to live in a jungle of sidewalks, buildings, and pavement, I beg to differ.

There’s never enough green around us to satisfy that hunger, that’s why we go camping and hiking and bike trailing whenever we get the chance. Being around trees brings a beautiful peace that’s impossible to describe. There’s only one city among all the places I’ve traveled and lived where the trees still rule and keep their majesty. That city is in Georgia, specifically, Atlanta’s metropolitan area.

Between almost every dwelling and lined up along every road and highway stands tall, full, beautiful trees. And in the spring, you can’t beat the additional bonus of seeing all types of flowering trees as they begin to bloom proudly. It’s such a delight just to breath in the fresh and aromatic air. The Magnolia, the Bradford Pair, the tall Georgia Pines, the blossoming Peach. Mm, incredible fragrances.

No other place captures the essence of nature like Georgia. Yes, there’s the California hills and foothills in the east, and the ocean in the west. The brilliant, regal city of Las Vegas displays the vast brush and sand of the desert. Michigan outnumbers every other state when it comes to rivers, lakes, and streams. But Georgia has the depth of a growing garden which surrounds you where ever you may be. Even in the heart of a great city like Atlanta. You don’t have to travel far to meet nature, as in other cities, you just have to stand and look around.
