#MyDreamisparodelabuso

#MyDream is parodelabuso

Today thousands went out to the streets to protest injust pension cuts, the closing of over 283 public schools, and the slow hurricane recovery efforts. Many govermental offices closed operations for the day in solidarity with the movement. The peaceful march came to an end when students from the Univerity of Puerto Rico (UPR) started chanting. Afterwards, the police started throwing tear gas at the huge crowd and then even further following students to their residences and arresting them without an official warrant. This is happening is the US right now and I do not hear any word from US officals. This is why we need to take matters into our own hands. Spread this message through social media please. #paronacional

This is a link to the newspaper El Nuevo Día with a short video about the march

And this is a brief article in english about it.

@Claudia Rodriguez This is an incredibly powerful piece; thank you for having the courage to share it. I'm glad to see your passion and activism hasn't been quelled by the lack of political support. Do you have any thoughts on how students, especially those abroad, can directly support these efforts for change?

The amazing thing about puertorrican students that are studying abroad is their nationalism. Through hurricanes Irma and Maria hundreds of students raised together thousands of dollars through merchandise, go fund me, etc.  A group even got Jimmy Fallon to donate 10,000! So definitely change can be done if we want it to happen!

You are so brave. What do you think citizens in the U.S. can do to help?
