Romy Taormina

She is Nausea Relief Chief and Co-Founder of Psi Bands. She has two teenage boys and she has been married for more than 20 years. Psi Bands are a stylish medical device, acupressure wrist bands, for the relief of nausea due to motion/travel sickness, morning sickness, anesthesia and chemotherapy. She suffered from debilitating morning sickness and found nausea relief from acupressure wrist bands, but she was dissatisfied with existing products on the market so she set out to create something better for those who suffer from nausea. Stylish and functional Psi Bands were born. 

What made her become an entrepreneur?? 

"My personal experience suffering from debilitating nausea led me there. I saw an opportunity to improve upon an existing product concept, and I ran with it. And, having a business degree certainly helped."

Jean Brillman

Her name is Jean Brillman.  She owns two businesses, Angel Pet Sitting and White Horse Coffee & Creamery.  She has two girls, a 3 year old and a 5 year old.  Before following her entrepreneurial dreams, she was a teacher and has a Masters in Education. What made her become an entrepreneur??  

" I have always been intrisically motivated and a self-starter, and I wanted to do something where my serious work ethic could lead to growth.  My husband and I started looking for business opportunities and we came across Angel Pet Sitting.  At the time, it was a very small business but we recognized the potential it had for growth.    We purchased the business with a home equity line of credit and I went to work!  Within 3 years, I tripled the gross income of the business, went from 5 independent contractors to 12 employees and from 100 clients to 500+ clients.  In 2012, I had my first baby and by that time, I had set the business up so that a manager could run the day to day operations and I did more behind the scenes stuff like marketing, hiring and payroll.  This allowed me to be a stay at home mom, which was very important to me."

Ardis Thompson

Her name is Ardis Thompson and she is a mother of two crazy boys and a certified soapmaker. She works full time and fan the fires of High Street Soap during nights and weekends. What made her become an entrepreneur??  

"I was always that one girl in the soap aisle smelling all the different bars, so I started to make my own as a hobby and loved playing around with all the different fragrance combinations I could create. I wanted to become an entrepreneur to share moments of me time with other busy women. I know that other women can benefit from a bar of soap that multi tasks in their shower. Not only does it clean naturally but it can transform your mood using the power of fragrance. Maximize your me time with a pretty smelling soap! I enjoy working hard on my business since my end goal is to have a flexible schedule so I can spend quality moments with my kids on my time."

Mareya Ibrahim

She is chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie - a passionate lover of food, fitness, family and friends, fun and fabulous!  She is a natural foods industry veteran, holistic nutritionist, author, proud mama and founder of Grow Green Industries, INC., the makers of eatCleaner(r) and eatFresh-FC.  She founded the company after her father, Dr. Shawki Ibrahim, was diagnosed with cancer and told to avoid raw produce because of the risk of food borne illness.  They created this unique, patented, all natural and lab proven line of products fueled by plant science that help you take food safety and savings into your own hands.

What made her become an entrepreneur??  

"I saw the need in the market for products to enhance the ease and safety of consuming fresh foods after my father’s cancer diagnosis and couldn’t find anything that could also extend shelf life.  Then, when we would go to the store, my daughter always wanted an apple, and I never had a way to clean it on the go.  So the concept of the wash and wipes were born. I also wanted to create my own schedule so I could be more present with my kids growing up, and ultimately leave them a legacy.  Being an entrepreneur is the scariest and most exciting thing I’ve ever done - besides having kids."

Robin Wilson

Robin Wilson is an eco-friendly interior designer, author and entrepreneur with hypoallergenic products sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohls, JC Penney and other retailers. She is author of two award-winning books: Clean Design (Greenleaf, 2015) and Kennedy Green House (Greenleaf, 2010). She is the first woman with a branded line of custom kitchen & bath cabinetry that was sold by over 400 independent Holiday Kitchens dealers nationwide. "I am a 4th generation entrepreneur – my great grandfather was involved in real estate and a janitorial business. My grandfather continued the work and as a young child, I trailed him as he collected rents, painted after tenants moved out and placed change in the paper sleeves that had to be taken to the bank teller for the deposits. I learned that being an entrepreneur is hard work but you also have a certain amount of freedom to do it “your way” and to give back to the local community."

Lisa Druxman

She is the founder of FIT4MOMand the author of The Empowered Mama. She is a mom of two, a fitness pro and self-proclaimed idea monkey who is on a mission to get moms out of overwhelm and into a life of health and happiness. Melody Pourmoradi

Her name is Melody Pourmoradi, life and wellness coach at Life Evolutions and the creator of the GiRLiFE Empowerment Series. Her mission is to help girls and women access their own inner light, wisdom and brilliance and share them with the world. GiRLiFE was birthed from something she SO needed as a young girl that she didn't know she needed at the time. There are so many ups and downs and rites of passages that young girls move through -- without a solid foundation, it's hard to remember who you are through it all. She can distinctly remember when she stopped listening to my own inner voice of knowing,  and started tuning outside of myself, to the the noise of society and other people's ideas about how a young girl should think, act and feel. "I grew up in a family business so I definitely had the entrepreneurial spirit ingrained in my being from a young age. She is a 55 year old single Mom of 6.  Her business is an app for chores, such as errand running, house cleaning, dog walking, dog baths, waiting for the cable company or a delivery of furniture, etc.  - really almost anything you can think of, they can accommodate or make it happen. and the app is dashit.

What made her become an entrepreneur??  

"I became an entrepreneur by default!  I had not worked in over 20 years while I was home raising my children, so I was not qualified for any kind of work.  I developed this business as a way of helping women on both ends of the spectrum.  Single moms, college students, women trying to go back to school and wanting the freedom of working when they can.  On the other side, I wanted to help women who are incredibly busy juggling, kids, a career and all the havoc that can wreak!  This is a way for other women to help them with all of their household errands, etc.  I believe it is a win/win and the purpose is to propel women, move them forward and everyone has the opportunity to be successful!"

Holly Reisem Hanna

Holly Reisem Hanna is the publisher and founder of the award-winning website, The Work at Home Woman. Her name is Gisela Bouvier. She is a 31 year old wife, mom, and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. "I became an entrepreneur because I was tired of working for someone else. My last job I was constantly ridiculed, talked down to, and not respected. I had always dreamed of owning my own business but was too afraid of failure. The good thing about my awful job was that it pushed me to finally become an entrepreneur. The constant negativity toward me gave me fuel to say enough was enough and to start making my own rules. It also reminded me that I never want my daughter to settle in life and that you have to pursue what you desire most."

Her name is Angela Smith.  She has been married 15 years and have four children aged 11, 10, 7 and 5.  She lives on 7 acres in a small town outside of Austin, TX.  She loves reading and listening to podcasts. "Marriage!  I am an entrepreneur by marriage.  I like security and control and I am naturally risk averse.  My husband is an entrepreneur by nature and is one of the most risk tolerant people I’ve ever met.  He is the dreamer and idea generator in our family.  My nickname is “dream slayer” because I have a tendency to tell him all the reasons his ideas won’t work.  Yip Yap was my idea, and he’s quick to say that the only reason I agreed to move forward with starting the company was because I couldn’t “slay” my own idea!  I do consider myself an entrepreneur now, but because it is not natural for me, the ups and downs are more difficult for me to deal with than they are for him."

Jill Bigelow is an inventor, entrepreneur, mama of 3 who earned her MBA from USC Marshall School of Business. Prior to launching PELV-ICE, her professional experience was in finance and operations across several industries including real estate, hospitality and advertising. She is a mom, wife and businesswoman. She owns a financial planning practice helping women take control of their money. Her firm, Pure Planning, works with professional women who struggle with finding the time to get financially organized. They want a second set of eyes on their finances to make sure their making the right choices. Unlike many financial planners she doesn’t sell any products or only work with the ultra wealthy. Her client’s get an unbiased review of their current finances and a plan for how to meet their goals going forward. "I am a career changer and when I started looking for a job as a Financial Planner I couldn't find any company that was a good fit for me. I didn't want to sell insurance, I didn't want to only work with the ultra wealthy and I didn't want to spend 4 years potentially working my way up the ladder. I found a really supportive group, XY Planning Network, full of other planners who started their own business. I was able to join their group and feel supported as I launched my firm. I would advise anyone considering becoming an entrepreneur to find a group who can act as a support system. Being an entrepreneur is a roller coaster of emotions and connecting with other people in a similar situation removes the feeling of isolation."

Carin Luna-Ostaseski

Carin has a unique business. She's the first American woman in history to create a brand of Scotch Whisky. After 17 years as a successful Creative Director at ABC News and Reuters, she left corporate America to pursue her whisky dream.She also has a very interesting hobby, aviation, having earned her private pilot’s license several years ago, joining the very small 5% of all pilots who are women. In a terrific twist of fate, Carin Luna-Ostaseski really came to love Whisky through…a break-up. An embarrassing story she didn't share until recently, realizing it has inspired many an entrepreneur, she now shares easily. When her relationship ended, she found herself every Friday after work at her local Whisky shop, choosing to spend her “couples-counseling money” on a few really nice bottles of Scotch Whisky instead. By the year’s end, she had almost 300 bottles, and was cured! She became a student of Whisky and hosted tasting events for many years. Carin soon discovered people were ready for a new whisky, one that would change the way people think about Scotch. She is the owner of Georgia Crafted, an e-commerce business based in Georgia, that specializes in sourcing Georgia-made products and packages them into amazing gift boxes. Their goal is to help both individuals and companies give gifts, but make it a much simpler process and help everyone support small local businesses. 

What made her become an entrepreneur??

"After working for a marketing agency for 13 years and contending with a 2.5 hour round trip commute every day, my husband and I decided it was time for a change. After recognizing my passion for shopping local paired with my marketing background, we came up with the idea of Georgia Crafted.  Launching this company allowed me to not only leave my job (thanks to my husband's support), but it allowed me to have more time with my children."
