Sarafina was a 1992 musical theater and film adaption of the true life story set during late 1980's- early 1990's of the Apartheid era in South Africa. The works are incredibly powerful and surround the story of local school children led by a young Girl named, Sarafina, who were moved to take action against the oppression and violence committed upon the community, the Black African people, and themselves the youth receiving the brunt of violence. During this movement for equality over 750 school children apart of the youth resistance were murdered by law, 10,000 were arrested, and many more tortured/assaulted by law enforcement. The story really needs to be brought back to Broadway and certainly the screen. Such an important part of history that should never be forgotten.
