How to Balance Summer Internships, Classes & Life – For Our NextGen Moguls Community

You landed the perfect internship. But now you realize you have to balance it with your summer classes. And, of course, it's summer—you want to have a little fun time! Don't worry, we've got you covered. Simply follow these 3 steps:

1. Be Transparent About Your Availability

The last thing you want during your summer is to experience burnout. Burnout is incredibly detrimental to your mental and physical health, and the effects can compound into your fall semester.

Allow yourself space in your schedule to have fun and enjoy summer. Try your best to plan ahead so you can give your internship enough notice for when you're available to work.

Don't forget to take the time to have fun!

2. Work Remote if Possible

A remote internship is a great way to train your discipline for when you enter the workforce. But more importantly, it provides the opportunity not to feel overwhelmed and pressured to overwork.

Working remote saves the time you'd normally spend commuting, which will give you time back in your day to go out with friends even if you have work or class.

3. Learn to Say No

It can be difficult to say no in service of ensuring you don't burn yourself out. But you must take care of yourself first.

Whether it's your internship asking you to take on an extra project, or your friends asking you to go out when you have class tomorrow morning, make sure you're feeling up to whatever is asked of you. And remember, it's ok to say no.
