Hi everyone! I’m back with a snippet of what is happening in our world today. Today’s topic is DACA, a program that was proposed by former President Obama in June of 2012. DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and aims to protect the children of undocumented immigrants that came to the United States. DACA directly benefits the young immigrants by protecting them from deportation and gives them a work permit.
As you may have heard in the news, President Trump has decided to cancel the program that has long helped these young immigrants live in this country. However, I hope that while DACA is being cancelled, DREAM will be signed into law. DREAM stands for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors and is another piece of legislation that has yet to be passed. This legislation aims to help immigrant minors as well, giving them two-year renewable work permits.
However, if it were up to me, I would support the 780,000 children currently benefitting from DACA and push to pass DREAM so that these children have a chance to live a healthy life and pursue life, liberty, and happiness. After all, what is the fault of these youngsters who were brought into the country at a young age. Would they benefit at all if their lives were uprooted because of something that wasn’t their decision? But, in the light of the recent events, let us pray that DREAM will be passed. I hope to benefit these children by publicizing the event further so that there is proper attention to the matter. Good luck DREAMers! I support each and every one of you.
Tell New York Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer to protect the DREAMers.
