Living in a household where disability awareness has been an important aspect of my life and large aspect in my community, I have been dissapointed (in all of my years of education in public school) that disability awarness is something that is not considered of importance to be discussed or shared with the student population. While our school has a reputation for inclusion and diversity, never in my three years at LaGuardia has the disability community been represented. I want to change that.
I am hosting a panel with various disability activists to expose the LaGuardia students to the world of disability which is present in New York City but not often recognized or experienced May 24th from 4:30 to 6 in the Library!
MANY AMAZING PEOPLE WILL BE THERE:
Alexandria Wailes: actress/dancer recently starring in Spring Awakening on Broadway
John McGinty: the first actor who is Deaf to take on Quasimodo for HUNCHBACK.
Jonathan Novick: He previously made a film about his own experiences as a little person in NYC and took part in an international film exchange program centering around disability issues.
Heidi Latsky: Choreographer of an integrated dance company
RJ MITTE from BREAKING BAD and Switched at Birth and actors from the TV Show SPEECHLESS (ABC television series) will come!
