Already surrounded by Oscar buzz, the critically acclaimed Sony Pictures Classics film MAUDIE, featuring actress Kari Matchett opposite Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke, has already lit up the festival circuit, appearing at the Telluride, Toronto and Berlin Film Festivals in the last few months and recently released in US theaters on June 16th. . MAUDIE is based on the true story of Maud Lewis (Hawkins), a Canadian painter who overcame physical challenges to become a beloved and successful folk artist. Matchett luminously portrays the key role of Sandra, a New Yorker with a Katharine Hepburn accent who's vacationing in the Maritimes, who becomes an early patron of Maud's. The character is based on a collage of various real-life collectors and people who knew Maud.
Matchett, a Canadian Gemini Award-winning actor, continues to prove she's one of the hardest working and busiest actresses working today. After her breakout role in ABC's "Invasion" opposite SAG Award winning actor William Fichtner, Matchett went on to star in season six of "24" alongside Kiefer Sutherland before capturing the heart of Matthew Perry's "Matt Albie" on the Aaron Sorkin produced "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" followed by a starring role opposite Treat Williams in the TNT original series, "Heartland." Matchett hasn't ignored the silver screen either, appearing in Terrence Malick's 2011 Palme d'Or winning film TREE OF LIFE opposite Brad Pitt and Sean Penn.
Up next, Matchett will be filming sci-fi film CODE 8 in Toronto this summer and will also appear in the new ION Television procedural crime drama/female detective series "The Detail," starring Shenae Grimes (90210).
