On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Metropolitan Pavilion, TopSpin Charity held its 9th Annual Tournament.
A few of the celebrities in attendance were Olympian Ashleigh Johnson, Actress Britne Oldford, and New York Jets Player Buster Skrine.

As many donors and sports enthusiast know, the TopSpin Charity is a national philanthropic group, dedicated to empowering America’s youth through education. Each year, they bring together more than 1,200 members of the sports, media and entertainment industries, including top sports executives and athletes from New York-based professional teams to its annual tournament.

This year, Oliver Scholars, was among one of the four educational non-profits selected as event partners and beneficiaries of all proceeds from the event. Oliver Scholars prepares high-achieving Black and Latino students from underserved NYC communities for success at top independent schools and prestigious colleges.

The Oliver Scholars experience, ranging from grade 5 through senior in college, includes up to ten years of one-on-one support, after-school and summer coursework, and pre-career training. David Allyn Ph.D., Oliver Scholars CEO was in attendance at the event along with TopSpin executives and professional athletes and celebrities from NYC discussed their involvement and the importance of continuing to raise awareness and funds to support the NYC youth education movement and its impacts on the national conversation about youth education.

The 2017 event includes a Celebrity Tournament – featuring professional athletes and celebrities from New York City – and the Professional Division of USA Table Tennis, and 14 of New York’s top restaurants together in one venue to offer an unprecedented catering experience. The event also featured a Coca-Cola Lounge, Artist, DJ, and Songwriter / Producer, Kalkutta, providing the sounds for TopSpin 2017. Additional event elements included an experience by FoxTales and a silent auction in partnership with Grandstand Sports & Memorabilia.

There was music, mingling, networking, all put together for such a great cause. The event was very successful for 2017 and based on the turnout, promises to be even more amazing for 2018.
