From the minute we wake up to the second we fall asleep it seems that our lives are wrapped around social media and the lives of others. While we do gain a lot of benefits from social media, there are an equal amount of drawbacks. So after a lot of thought and finding the reason behind who I currently am as a person and the feelings I’ve been having these days I decided to disable my Instagram, which was my ultimate social media source to people’s lives. Even though it’s only been a couple days I’ve already begun to experience the benefits of a social media cleanse and have been happier than before. I’ve listed couple of the benefits from this cleanse below and I hope it’ll encourage you guys to give it a try too!
1. It’ll help you to prioritize what’s important to you
The habit of reaching for your phone and checking your social media is something that we all know of and have done, but without that need you can focus on your studies, meet up with friends/family or be more involved in church or school activities. I assure you that face to face communication is extremely important and tremendously more memorable than the recent story you’ve seen on Snapchat. Take time to decide what’s important to you and what you care about.
2. A time of self-improvement
Instead of comparing yourself to what others are doing or how they look like you can have a time where you focus on yourself. Social media actually takes up a significant amount of our time, so with a social media cleanse it’ll give you the time to learn that new activity you’ve always wanted to learn or try out that new cafe that just opened! Enjoy the time of independence and self love!
3. Helps you focus on the beauties of your daily life that you’ve missed out on
As the season is changing and the weather is getting warmer, birds are beginning to sing and flower buds are blossoming. It’s the perfect time to go for a walk and enjoy the view of your town or college campus. You can even put on your headphones, play your favorite upbeat song and enjoy the other aspects of what life has to offer!
These benefits are only few of what a social media cleanse has to offer, but it’s some of the things that have personally impacted me. However, going on a social media cleanse doesn’t mean that you have to delete every single one of your social media accounts and isolate yourself from the world, but it just means that you can decide to moderate which ones are the best for you. Find a median where you’re most comfortable and always remember to be happy with yourself beyond anything!
