The title probably has you thinking that I’m talking about singing, acting or some other talent used in entertainment. Nope, that’s not the case.
When I say “talent” I’m referring to a set of or a business skill you possess that you can use to make extra money (For clarification purposes, I’m not talking about pole dancing, but if that’s your thing… then great.). I’m speaking about business skills.
Perhaps you have a gift of being able to organize things well. Or maybe you’re an excellent analyst. You might be an exceptional writer. Maybe your friends always get you to design flyers for them. The possibilities are endless.
I bring this up for a couple of reasons: 1. Things change financially on a daily basis. The days of being able to get a job because they were plentiful are gone and have been for decades. So, you may need to use a talent to support yourself. 2. Anyone can start a business or means of financially supporting themselves. This is where the talent comes in. You may start off small and slowly at first, but at least you start.
I watch clients come to me with ideas to start a business on a daily basis. Many of them are great. However, they are in fear of taking the steps necessary to begin. If you don’t start, you can ever succeed. My grandmother used to say, “nothing beats a failure, but a try.” I had to grow up and have some life experiences to really understand what that meant, but I’ve got it now!
In fact, if there is something I want to do in business, then I go ahead and to it. If I fail, then I’ve learned some lessons for the next time. Either way, I feel good about myself because at least I tried. I didn’t wait on someone to hand or give me something. In this world, sometimes a part of success is failure.
So, take the leap and use those talents. We never know what the next day will bring so we have to be ready to financially support ourselves. Unfortunately, there may not be a job with a company ready to hire you. But, you can hire yourself and succeed!
