On today’s #AboutaGirl series @just.a.q talks about wellness and self-care. @just.a.q is a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also the president of the Black Student Movement @unc_bsm.
Her interview is down below:
Q: At the end of a hard week how do you make sure your mind and body rejuvenate?
Qieara Lesesne: At the end of a hard week I love to take the time to exercise extensive self care. The weekend is where I find the most time to do my face masks and hour long deep conditioning with my hair. I also like to make sure I get an internal cleanse with a fresh juice. Juicing can be expensive, so I most likely won’t have more than 2 pressed juices a week.
Q: How do you motivate yourself to workout?
QL: I have been an athlete since middle school and my motivation to workout comes from my intrinsic competitive nature with myself to stay healthy and remain the best version of me possible. I am very easily inspired by visuals, so I often go to my Pinterest board or IG bookmarks to look at realistic fitness goals to stay motivated.
Q: What does wellness mean to you?
QL: To me, wellness is a state of being. Wellness is holistically about your physical, mental health and the health status of your relationships. To take care of my wellness I’m constantly looking to eliminate anything or person who brings those toxins into my space or entering into toxic environments.
Q: How do you look at challenges in your life in a positive light?
QL: Positivity and negativity all come down to perspective. As I have grown and continue to grow, I have learned to shift my perspective when faced with challenges that seem too frustrating or unconquerable. The change in my perspective often elevated my mind to a space that will allow me to think of a solution to my problem or a way out of bad situations.
Q: Why is creating female unity important?
QL: Female unity is often underrated but is extremely invaluable to a woman’s individual morale and success. It is important to have a certain level of support when you’re trying something new or struggling to stay committed. When the distractions or perils of life are too hectic it is a privilege to be able to call my friends and talk about creative and enjoyable ways that I can stay on track.
Q: What is your favorite fitness brand and why?
QL: My favorite fitness brand is Nike. The brand offers many different looks that I can train in and also turn into athleisure. It’s comfortable and practical.
