Renowned Artist & Sculptor of the Fearless Girl Statue
Kristen Visbal was born an American citizen in Uruguay, daughter to an American Foreign Service diplomat. A bronze sculptor raised in the United States, she attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and earned a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from Salisbury State University, Salisbury, MD in 1995.
Visbal studied the process of lost wax casting at the prestigious Johnson Atelier Art Foundry in Mercerville, New Jersey from 1995—1998, where she apprenticed in mold making, patina and wax chasing and taught a mold work shop. Visbal lives on the Delaware Eastern Shore and has managed her clay modeling studio Visbal Fine Bronze Sculpture in Lewes, Delaware since 1998.
Migrating to art from a career in the hotel industry with Omni Hotels Washington, DC Regional Sales office, Visbal worked with the large community of national association meeting planners. She coordinated a city-wide blood drive and acted as treasurer of the Society Of Government Meeting Planners.
Kristen Visbal’s work is infused with motion at every opportunity and the Artist’s preoccupation with motion is the focus of her new series, Left Of Center. This collection of works will distort the human form while continuing to employ the principles of design such as rhythm, repetition, and balance.
Kristen Visbal has numerous notable works, including her collection of ten larger than life Hall Of Fame football coaches. Located at Miami University’s Yager Football Stadium in Oxford, Ohio, the collection includes such noteworthy coaches as Notre Dame’s
Ara Parseghian and the Baltimore Raven’s John Harbaugh. Most well-known is
Fearless Girl, inspiring the empowerment of women worldwide and symbolizing the call for gender diversity in leadership. The 50 inch bronze figure was installed in March 2017 in celebration of International Women’s Day and currently stands at Bowling Green Park in New York City’s Financial District. Visbal’s work on the project with McCann New York advertising and investment management giant State Street Global Advisors of Boston, MA earned 4 Grand Prix and 18 Lions at the Cannes Film Festival.
Kristen Visbal’s work has been exhibited at the Lincoln Center, The Pen and Brush Club, the National Sculpture Society, and the National Arts Club in New York City, as well as the Symposium For The Preservation And Biology Of Sea Turtles in Orlando, Florida, the Woodburn Governor's Mansion in Dover, Delaware, the Easton Waterfowl Festival in Easton, MD, and the Ward Wildfowl Museum in Salisbury, MD. Visbal remains a member of National Sculpture Society, founded in 1893 as the first organization of professional sculptors.
