About me
My name is Ishrat Zahan and I'm a 16-year-old Mogul Events Reporter for Brooklyn Technical High School who focuses on both contemporary issues and agential ones that directly affect me. Apart from being an events reporter for Mogul, I am also the president of Current Affairs Awareness Forum, where we conduct weekly seminars that dissect the news stories with a more intersectional and international perspective. I've come to realize when I hold these public forums, I spend a lot of my time complaining. But I've also realized the smaller problems I'm constantly advocating against are actually part of larger, global structural phenomena and hundreds of women-right here on Mogul-are complaining about. And thus, here I am, hoping I can voice our complaints and utilize this platform to spur controversial international conversations and ultimately, create a lasting impact that upturns the strongly embedded social constraints that confine us. I find power in my words and thus I write-as an angry girl-and hope even a single person reads gains insight. I write, striving to give an intimacy, understanding, and sympathy-nuance to the issues we think we know. I write because even a single person gaining perspective on an issue means something to me.
