360° VIRTUAL REALITY VIDEO OF THE 9/11 MEMORIAL IN NEW YORK CITY
Yesterday, I visited the 9/11 Memorial to pay my respects and capture this place in Virtual Reality. Every year it is being built up and changes a little bit, and I wanted to take a snap shot of this place at this moment in time. If I was a historian 50 years in the future, I would want to see what it was like to be here, in New York City, on 9/11/2015.
Here is a small clip I was able to edit last night. I want to share it with anyone who may have wanted to be there during this time.
My 9/11/01 Story
I was working as Production Assistant on a Japanese Cooking Show on 9/10/2001. We went to the top of the World Trade Center early that morning. The next day I was excited because I was finally getting out of town. I had not traveled much at that point and I was happy because we were scheduled to shoot crab fishing in the Hamptons.
Like most people I watched the planes strike the Towers on T.V. The satellite truck pulled over and we watched the Tower that we had visited the day before collapse. We could even see a small trail of the massive smoke raising far in the distance. All of us knew if the schedule was a little different we could have been at the top of the World Trade Center on 9/11/01 and not 9/10/01. Some of the cast still had their tickets from the day before.
Being a NewYorker on the crew, I was worried about my family and friends back home but we couldn't reach anyone; cell service was down. We couldn't turn around because the highways were closed. We were stuck in Long Island for a few days until the highways reopened. I found out later that my aunt was in one of the buildings but she was on a low floor and was able to run out.
When I finally got home, I found the city I loved was completely changed. New York City was the friendliest place in the world on the weeks that followed 9/11 as people lined up to give blood and help others. You could talk to any stranger in the street for a while. Everyone wanted to do something, even just listening to others talk about what happened was healing to all.

Please share your own story in the comments, if you like. I will NEVER FORGET the day my city was attacked.
I stayed up late last night to post this small clip but I will work on a longer full VR tour this weekend and post it later this week. My hope is that those who were unable to make the trip to New York City during this time, can experience what it is like in Virtual Reality.
