Unfortunately, in the entertainment industry, women are still largely seen as incapable of being “funny”. Even though female comics appear to be on the rise, a double standard still exists. Many men often say female-led comedies can’t be successful, or that female comedians can’t be “too attractive”, or they limit what is acceptable for a female comedian to discuss. It’s disturbing to think that with all the progress and advancements we’ve made as a society, men and women are still not treated as equals.
But what if the roles were reversed…? This video of female comedians sarcastically discussing why men aren’t funny gives us a glimpse of what it would look like if the shoe was on the other foot. Although hilarious and light-hearted on the surface, the video carries a more serious message. It creatively exposes the lack of gender equality and the absurdity of the discrimination and twisted double standards women in comedy face in the entertainment industry.
What are your thoughts on the video? Did you find it amusing yet enlightening?
