A healthier future starts with you.

Our mission is to build healthier communities by connecting people to real food.

At sweetgreen, our team is our best ingredient and form the ecosystem that keeps our mission alive. Our restaurants serve fresh food made from scratch every day with sustainably grown ingredients from farmers we trust, and our support center implements processes and technologies to create magical and inclusive experiences for team members and customers. A business can only be as successful as the community it serves, and we support local nonprofits to make healthy food more accessible.

sweetgreen is more than just a restaurant company — we’re on a journey to rewrite the future of food and leave our people and planet better than we found them.

Our core values embody our culture and help us make decisions about everything from the food we serve to the impact we have on our communities.

Win, Win, Win: Create solutions where the customer wins, the community wins, the company wins.

Think Sustainably: Make decisions that will last longer than you will.

Keep It Real: Cultivate authentic food and relationships.

Add The Sweet Touch: Create meaningful connections every day.

Make An Impact: Leave people better than you found them.

Live The Sweetlife: Celebrate your passion and your purpose.

Diversity & Inclusion

Commitment to Diversity, Equity + Inclusion

We believe that everyone has a seat at the table.

At sweetgreen, we empower our teams to find solutions that create value for the customer, the company, and the community around us.

To achieve our mission, we are committed to embracing diverse voices and providing equal opportunities because a business can only be as healthy as the community it serves.

Alleviating Food Insecurity

Our work is rooted in a passion for making food accessible for all. We’re doubling down on our efforts to tackle food insecurity by donating meals to those with limited access to food with each new restaurant opening.

Championing Underrepresented Farmers + Partners

Given that just 1.4% of the country’s 3.4 million producers are Black, we’re committed to long-term support for the work of historically underserved producers, including BIPOC, Women, LGBTQ+, and beginning farmers, and removing roadblocks along the way.

Creating a more Diverse, Equitable, & Inclusive Team

We’re examining and updating our recruitment, hiring, and promotion processes to build diverse representation in leadership and management. We host community conversations to ensure our teams feel seen and heard and are committed to providing programs focused on the practice of inclusion.

Nobody makes a more significant impact than our team members. Their dedication allows us to live our mission of connecting people to real food every day. We're dedicated to building a positive company culture from paid parental leave, competitive pay to equity,

Paid Parental Leave

The U.S. is one of the few countries that does not mandate any paid leave for new parents,  and we believe it is our responsibility to lead the way by creating a new standard in the restaurant industry. We updated our parental leave policy to provide a more just benefit to all parents. Mothers, fathers, adoptive parents, foster parents, and others with new additions to their families will receive 20 weeks of paid parental leave upon 12 consecutive months at sweetgreen.

Free, Healthy Meals

Our mission of connecting people to real food starts with our team. We provide complimentary meals to our team members with every shift and our support center staff with a regular stipend to experience our food and our brand.

Emergency Hardship Fund

The Family Fund is a safety net for our team members when they face emergency hardships beyond their control. Since its creation in 2017, the Family Fund has provided over $100,000 of emergency relief grants to team members in distress. All employees can participate in the communal pool of funds with recurring paycheck deductions or make a one-time donation.

Employee Assistance Program

All employees have access to EAP 24/7 for tailored resources during challenging personal situations, including legal and financial advice and up to five free sessions with a mental health professional per issue per year.

Paid Time Off

We offer a flexible paid-time-off policy for eligible support center employees. Employees can take time off at their discretion, subject to manager approval and provided that their responsibilities to their projects are being fulfilled.

At sweetgreen, our culture is our soil. Bringing our mission to life starts with our people. We want sweetgreen to be a transformative place, and we pride ourselves on providing leadership opportunities, personal growth, and professional development. Working at sweetgreen lets you live your sweetlife — you can be yourself, take care of yourself, grow, connect with others, and make an impact on your community.

Learning + Development

Our learning programs serve the evolving needs of the business and foster an internal culture of equal opportunity and belonging. Our goal is to grow the best teams in parallel with the growth of sweetgreen by meeting employees where they are with timely, accessible, and inclusive learning experiences.

Employee Resource Groups

Our sweetgreen resource groups provide safe spaces for employees to recount shared experiences and opportunities for leadership development. Allies are welcome and encouraged to participate.

  • EnableSG: representing visible and invisible disabilities

  • Green Goddesses: representing women

  • Heirloom: representing communities of color

  • Parent Company: representing working parents

  • SG Pride: representing LGBTQ+

DEI Programming

Our ERGs create community + connection with ongoing programs throughout the calendar year. We encourage all employees to participate in ERG communications, gatherings, and cultural month celebrations.

Our DEI programs build cultural competency and empower active allyship. We also host experts + thought leaders to share diverse, inspirational ideas with our team. Discussion topics have included unconscious bias, inclusive design, female leadership, food justice, and anti-racism.

Community Service

We’re all about making an impact, and our team gathers for optional days of service every year. Whether we are beautifying a local community garden or sharing the benefits of healthy eating with students, we’re always looking for meaningful ways to give back to our communities.

Social impact

We believe that a business can only be as healthy as its ecosystem. We leverage the power of our brand and our role in the food system as our superpowers to bring about change.

New Restaurant Openings

For every bowl sold on opening day each new restaurant opening, we donate a bowl to a local food access partner to support families.

Food + Nutrition Security

We have matched SNAP dollars at farmers' markets, helped establish mobile markets to reach underserved communities, and transformed a family corner store into a communal space with healthier options.

Impact Outposts

In 2020 during COVID-19, we delivered free meals to healthcare heroes. Due to overwhelming support, we created the Impact Outpost Fund to scale our efforts while supporting team members with much-needed work hours and farmers. We donated nearly 400,000 meals to over 400 hospitals.

sweetgreen in schools

In 2010, we started sweetgreen in schools, a curriculum for educators to teach kids on food and sustainability, impacting 9,000 students. From 2019 to 2021, we partnered with FoodCorps to pilot ways for students to experiment with food and reimagine their lunchrooms.

Carbon Neutral by 2027

As leaders in an industry that drives 25% of global emissions, it is our responsibility to use our resources to confront the climate crisis. That’s why we have made a promise to reduce our carbon footprint by 50% and offset where reduction isn’t yet possible.
