At Sunlight Financial, we view our culture as the personality of our company. We focus on being genuine, passionate, scrappy, honest, fair, and talent-focused. And we take an intentional approach to incorporate these qualities in the activities, environment, and people that flourish the halls of our offices. For example, our offices incorporate an open-floor work environment throughout all seniority levels. The workspace elevates communication and collaboration among teammates and removes physical barriers to better interact with each other regularly. Our company intranet is a breeding ground for our culture as well. From teammate bios highlighting fun facts about you and your favorite tv shows to our recognition center where you can shout out teammates and nominate them for showcasing our core values, putting an emphasis on culture and people is what we do!
Health is an important factor in our company as well. Most recently, we created a company-wide voluntary fitness challenge called “I Would Walk 500,000 Steps.” With over 75% teammate participation, the goal of the competition is to complete 500,000 steps between Oct 1st – November 30th. A company leaderboard is tracking progress and stirring up some healthy competition among teammates shooting for the goal.
Once a month, teammates gather for 60 – 90 minutes of engaging discussions at our Toastmasters Club. Whether participants are looking to improve their speaking skills or get to know their teammates better, this is the place to be. Prepared and impromptu speeches are presented, and feedback is given to all speakers to help them identify ways to become toastmaster professionals!
Our dedicated Culture Club team has over 20 members that focus on delivering culture-inspired activities and events that revolve around our community, our diversity, our wellness, and our social surroundings.
Our organization and teammates commit to our core values and our mission to enhance the lives of our customers, grow our partners’ business and improve our communities.
After joining Sunlight Financial in 2015, Matt Potere (CEO) played a key role in expanding Sunlight to Charlotte, NC beyond its original location in New Jersey. Matt saw Charlotte as an integral piece to driving success through its deep pool of financial services talent and the region’s attractiveness for recruiting employees. Since then, the Charlotte office has grown to over 150 teammates (and counting) helping boost job opportunities for Charlotte and the surrounding areas.
Matt frequently shares his passion and commitment to supporting the Queen City community. One of Matt’s more exciting contributions was the Renewable Energy Transition Initiative (RETI) donation program in Charlotte. RETI aims to create sustainable communities, through donations of supplying and installing rooftop solar for homeowners with a high energy burden. Being able to donate a solar system to a family that was in need was a very proud moment for Matt and the Sunlight family.
While outside of the immediate Charlotte community, Sunlight has offices in California and New York and Matt’s desire to contribute on a national and global level is just as strong as his local commitment. In 2019, Sunlight had an opportunity to partner with PetersenDean Roofing & Solar in a joint initiative to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Together, Sunlight and PetersenDean donated and installed residential solar systems on a St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house in California. This contribution was one that really hit home for Sunlight teammates. We value giving back to our communities and many of us at Sunlight are parents with whom St. Jude’s work advancing research and treatment to prevent and cure pediatric diseases resonates strongly.
