Things work out for those who work hard.
Please comment on your experiences as a female working and finding success in your industry/function?
Being a young woman working in operations at a tool company may seem unnatural, and it is unnatural for me at times. That's not a bad thing. It is what makes the work more challenging and competitive in an already competitive environment. In all honesty, I like the shock value of doing the work and achieving the results where and when others least expect it.
If you could go back and give yourself advice as a college student knowing what you know now, what would it be?
You never know what you'll end up doing or using. So just learn how to learn and take courses that are interesting.
What is one interesting fact about SBD that people might not know?
We really do make tools in the USA, with great people in plants all over the country.
If you hadn't gone into your specific function, what other career path would you have taken?
Real answer is a lawyer. Fun answer is waitress - I loved waitressing.
What has been your biggest career risk?
Going to a manufacturing location versus staying in a supply chain role. I had no experience in manufacturing, which ended up becoming my biggest advantage. I recognized that I knew nothing and was willing to learn from everyone - the plant managers to the operators.
How do you juggle personal and professional life without sacrificing one for the other?
This is easy - to be effective at work you need to maintain a balanced, healthy life. You need to know your values and make sure that is aligned with where you spend your time. As long as you are allocating your time and being effective with that time, there’s no reason to ever feel guilty. Even if I’m leaving early for a run on a sunny day.
What is your advice for women early in their careers?
Know the goals of your company and make sure the work you are doing aligns with them. Be energetic and talk to people.
