Hard work pays off.
Please comment on your experiences as a female working and finding success in your industry/function?
I have found that women supporting women is a very powerful thing. I've been fortunate enough to have great role models and mentors at Stanley Black & Decker, who've helped to advance my career. The fact that this company started a Women's Network, aiming to help women pursue leadership positions, is a fantastic example of Stanley Black & Decker's passion for diversity.
If you could go back and give yourself advice as a college student knowing what you know now, what would it be?
It will all work out. I left college in a panic that I did not have a job lined up. After many, many resumes were sent out, an opportunity came along here at Stanley Black & Decker. Little did I know that I would find my passion here in Public Affairs.
What is one interesting fact about SBD that people might not know?
We have had more than 100 acquisitions in the past 15 years. Including our most recent – Craftsman.
If you hadn't gone into your specific function, what other career path would you have taken?
I'd be a chef. But now I cook for fun.
What has been your biggest career risk?
Taking my most current position in Public Affairs. This position is brand new to the company, meaning that I really need to show its value. I am excited to carve a new path though.
How do you juggle personal and professional life without sacrificing one for the other?
It is not easy. I feel like prioritization is the only way.
What is your advice for women early in their careers?
My advice for any woman early in her career is to work hard. I feel that if you work hard and demonstrate your abilities, people will notice. Maybe not as quickly as we'd all like, but they will, so just keep working hard.
