Warehouse Talk: 4 Ways You Can Converse with Your Staff While Taking Inventory

Inventory mismanagement gives most business owners a headache. It can not only waste employees time but can also affect your bottom line. This is one reason taking inventory is vital and why keeping a line of communication open to correct issues matters. The following are four simple ways you can do both effectively.

Intercom Connection

One of the easiest ways to communicate with your staff is through the intercom. This is usually used by leaders, but it does help communicate general information that your staff may need to know about your inventory as they attempt to make sense of your warehouse.

Two-Way Radios

Of course, there is going to come a time when two-way communication is going to be needed. At this point, you are going to need a dedicated two-way service along with effective communicators from a place like Altech Electronics. These lines are secured, so the information you share with your staff and what they share with you remains relatively confidential. You get to address any major issues that arise with a reliable two-way radio system.

Personal Computers

Today’s technology is making many things more efficient, including inventory maintenance. One tool that helps move things along are personal computers from a mobile computer supplier. The good thing about these devices is they can be used to manage inventory and for communication. Messages can be shared on these portable personal computers, and data can also be shared once the inventory is updated so that everyone is on the same page at all times.

Pyramid of Information

You can also establish a line of communication the old fashioned way, which is to simply assign people in your staff to relay updates to you or managers about the inventory. The problem with this method is that information can be misunderstood and you do not want that. It may be a good idea to ensure that all updates are written down on paper to make sure no details are lost. This is a relatively inefficient way to communicate with your staff, but it works and does not interrupt your staff while they are taking inventory.

Hopefully, some of these suggestions click with you so that you can talk to your staff as they take inventory. The key here is to find the form of communication that distracts your staff the least. Distractions lead to mistakes. You do not want to deal with that, so keep communication to a minimum.
