These 5 Statistics Show The Link Between Violence Against Women & Mass Shootings

These statistics are alarming!

1. The majority of mass shooters in the U.S. (54%) killed their intimate partners or family members.

2. About 4.5 million American women report that they have had an intimate partner threaten them with a gun.

3. American women are 16 times more likely to be killed by a gun than women in other developed nations.

4. Nearly half of American women who are murdered are killed by their intimate partners.

5. Homicide is the fifth leading cause of death for women between ages 18 and 44.

    "These statistics are alarming!"

But the interpretation here is somewhere between irrelevant and idiotic.

"1. The majority of mass shooters in the U.S. (54%) killed their intimate partners or family members."
So, armed person deranged enough to kill lots of strangers is also deranged enough to kill someon he, or she, knows. Brilliant!"

"2. About 4.5 million American women report that they have had an intimate partner threaten them with a gun."
Pretty low stat among 300+ million people. How about the numbers of men threatened?

"3. American women are 16 times more likely to be killed by a gun than women in other developed nations."
Yeah; we have a lot of gun here. Elsewhere, it's knives, bats, and frying pans.

"4. Nearly half of American women who are murdered are killed by their intimate partners."
No news here. Ask any homicide detective and he'll tell you that in any murder not involving a robbery, the spouse or domestic partner is almost always the prime suspect.

"5. Homicide is the fifth leading cause of death for women between ages 18 and 44."
Not much of a surprise. That means that four other causes are more common during a segment of life during which almost no one dies.
