Hey guys! Happy Self-Care Sunday!
This week, I decided to get a little personal.
I have battled with depression for about 2 years now. Although it's a rollercoaster that I just can't seem to get off, I've managed to find things that help deal with it to the best of my ability.
Due to my ongoing battle with depression, self-care has become one of the most essential things in my life. One of the things I've had to accept is that it is ok to get help and it is ok to reach out to others when needed. Although I still struggle with opening up to loved ones, sometimes I have to for my own health.
Recently I reached out to my boyfriend (shout out to him for being a huge support) and handed him a list of things I neglect whenever I'm going through a depression episode. Although this seems simple, that's the great thing about it. Often, I neglect things like brushing my teeth twice a day, showering, even painting my nails/toenails. What I asked from him was for him to look out for these things and to call me out whenever these things are happening. If I don't do several of these things, then I'm probably going through an episode. By giving someone what to look out for, it's just an extra pair of eyes to look out for you other than your own. This helps me because sometimes I don't even notice that I'm neglecting myself. I keep my list in my planner since I carry it everywhere, as a reminder of things to look out for. For me, my list looks like this:
• Brushing teeth at least twice a day
• Brushing/Styling hair
• Painting finger/toenails
• Keeping room clean
I hope this helps you guys reach out for help or simply helps keep track of yourself!
