Keeping New Year’s Resolutions

Did you know that only about nine percent of people who make New Year’s resolutions actually achieve them? What if we could change that discouraging statistic? What would it take for you to make a New Year’s resolution for 2018 and actually keep it? Here are five questions you can use to energize your goals, whether that includes sticking to a budget, eating healthy, getting fit, getting organized or whatever else you dream up for your best year yet.

5 Goal-Oriented Questions to Stop Sabotaging Yourself

If you have found that you are unable to reach the goals you've set for yourself in the past, it may be time to look a little deeper at what has been holding you back. Does it seem that there are always obstacles in your path, keeping you from becoming the person you want to be? You could be your own worst enemy, unknowingly sabotaging yourself with behaviors that you might not even suspect could be causing harm.

Self-sabotage can show up in surprising places and may seem impossible to overcome. The most common culprit in unconscious self-sabotage is emotional baggage — unresolved emotions that cause us to act in ways that prevent us from achieving all we desire for a happy, healthy, peaceful and love-filled life.

In order to derail these unhelpful patterns, we need to uncover and resolve the trapped emotions that have had us traveling the same old circuit and creating the same failed outcomes over and over again. Trapped emotions can cause you to make wrong assumptions, overreact to innocent remarks, misinterpret behavior and short circuit your relationships. Even worse, trapped emotions can create depression, anxiety and other unwanted feelings that you can’t seem to shake. They can interfere with proper function of your body’s organs and tissues, wreaking havoc on your physical health and causing pain, fatigue and illness. Yet no matter how great your suffering may be, the invisible energy of trapped emotions will remain undiagnosed by conventional medicine, even though they may be a major causative factor in your physical and emotional difficulties.

In other words, “emotional baggage” is a very real thing. For many people, it is the single biggest unrecognized impediment to them reaching their goals. To find out if you have trapped emotions that may be holding you back, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What needs to be released in order for me to accomplish my goal?
  2. Am I at ease with the possibility of actually achieving my goal?
  3. Do I deserve to achieve my goal?
  4. Is something blocking me from achieving my goal?
  5. Am I carrying any negative associations related to accomplishing my goal?

You might suspect that you have a trapped emotion, but it won’t necessarily show up when you ask the general question, “Do I have a trapped emotion that I can release now?” Trapped emotions sometimes need to be addressed more directly for them to unveil themselves. For example, you might ask, “Do I have a trapped emotion that is preventing me from losing weight? Blocking me from making more money? Interfering with the achievement of my goals?”

When we are able to recognize and release ourselves from emotional baggage, it frees us to achieve goals that have always seemed out of reach before. From this newly freed emotional state, very interesting and wonderful things can happen. Many people have found themselves finally able to live healthier and happier lives.
