#IAmMogul: Why It's Important to follow your passion. By Monique Coleman.

Each of us is born with a unique set of talents, gifts, and natural abilities, but it's our passion that fuels our dreams & takes us to next level. Our passion is our personal navigation! When we're feeling stuck it's often because we are out of alignment with our true desires. Here are 3 reasons I'm a champion for following your internal navigation and letting it take you to unimaginable places.

1. Your passion unlocks your purpose:

I used to dream of being an actress in Hollywood & making films that moved people to tears or laughter or simply entertained. I’ve come to understand that what I really wanted deep down was to make a positive impact on the world. Acting is just one vehicle to do so. However, my passion for acting led me to High School Musical, which helped me uncover my purpose — which is to empower & inspire young people (especially girls) to pursue their dreams and unleash their full potential. This took me to the United Nations as a Youth Champion, Girl Up,and to over 40 countries advocating on behalf of youth. I would have never dreamed of these things specifically, but they were the result of following my passion.

2. Your passion sustains you:

Inevitably, we all face challenges in life and encounter moments where we want to throw in the towel. However, living from your deepest passions gives you new energy and the power to overcome the darkest moments. Road blocks and obstacles arise so we can grow. Being practical will never get us as far as being passionate. So, next time things get tough, take bigger risks, practice radical gratitude & choose to do what lights you up. We only get one life so we may as well make it the best we can!

3. Your passion elevates you:

I've found that since I've allowed passion to guide me, the opportunities that I'm met with are truer to ALL aspects of my life. When I was only acting, I felt like I was missing something which led me into philanthropy & advocacy. But, when I was just speaking or championing causes, I felt like I'd lost my fire. My artist soul was empty. For years, I sought balance & I finally feel like I’ve found it. My latest project is the exact intersection of purpose & passion!! I play a guidance counselor, Katina Howard, in the upcoming Season 3 of Awesomess TV show “Guidance”. Not only is it the biggest role I've ever had (in terms of lines & screen time), I get to tackle issues like racism, slut shaming, and bullying—all things I'm passionate about. I can't wait for you guys to see it next month on Go90.

I hope my experience helps you to trust that your passion will guide you, elevate you, and sustain you! There is only one you on the planet, so when you activate the unique combination of who you really are and what you deeply want—you carve out your own lane. You being you and following your heart will make the world better! Promise.

Love,

Mo

So beautifully written. I love that going after your passion has guiding you and you have and are doing something influential. But do you have any advice if you think you have a passion but are not really following it and it's because you are unsure where your passion or goals really are ?
