Do you want to reduce accidents, boost productivity and streamline your business? Then, let’s flow with us on this blog. It’s time to give your warehouse a sensible organizing touch from receiving to storing, packaging and shipping – it’s time to palletize.
From the last few decades, organizing goods for delivery are accelerated by the presence of computerized machinery in every developing stage. This method of organizing, stacking and transporting goods on a pallet and shipped as a unit load is known as palletizing. No doubt, these machines are labor-saving and cost-effective that is accelerating manufactures manifold.
Palletizing is commonly found in industrial sectors such as pharmaceuticals, automotive, electronics, cosmetics, etc. It is an effective and efficient method of integration. For manufacturing companies, increasing speed without the risk of product damaging is an ultimate goal because any delay in a product dispatching may vandalize the business’s name in the market.
Types and effectiveness of palletizers:
Initially, palletizing was done with manual labor, but since 1970 palletizing methods have been modifying to different levels of automation. Automating the process with computerized machines means an increase in the total amount of boxes, cases, crates that can be stacked at one time in one pallet.
Inline palletizing is a type of automatic palletizing. This is a combination of conveyor belts and sorting equipment to orderly arrange the standardized containers into preset patterns for a safe transfer. Each layer is clamped into place and lifted off the conveyor belt and onto the pallet in uniform packaging. If there is any change in the stacking pattern, then the entire pallet is rotated. It was first introduced in the 1970s and still used in many supply chains because of its easy handling.
If you are producing similar goods (such as canned goods or cartons of equalized weights) that are symmetrical in shapes and sizes, then in-line palletizers are best to install. Since it is quicker and easier to handle and works efficiently with higher volumes.
Since inline palletizing functions with uniform products, there was always a requirement of manual labor in warehouses for asymmetrical palletizing. In addition to inline palletizers, articulated robotic arms were introduced in palletizing market as a cherry over the cake. This is flexible and has an advantage to custom organize products according to due requirements. They are capable of turning 360 degrees and require a space to properly function. They can be easily operated by anyone with minimal training. You can control its functioning, placement patterns, and speed on almost every changing product on a conveyor belt.
These are highly programmable multi-articulating arms platforms that can configure and stack several placements and types of packaging. Manufactured products are being picked by automated stacking systems by an in-feed conveyor belt. From there, the robotic arms pick up the product and wrap it in designated shape and discharge it on a conveyor belt which delivers it to the final destination in the warehouse.
Through robotic palletizing, equipment of various sizes and shapes can be arranged and packaged without making any substantial change to physical equipment on a single pallet. That was indeed an enormous and fascinating invention back in the day.
So, if you are manufacturing multiple products at one location, then it’s best to install both the palletizers at your warehouses. Since in-line palletizers become non-functional to atypical shapes while robotic palletizing may consume your time much more than expected.
The latest and fastest way to optimize your manufactures is to use this duo on the same pallet. It means to install robotic arms next to your in-line pallet which can custom pack your deliverable without charging you extra time. It is called a multichannel model in the language of supply chains, which can handle various products at one place with due attention.
For example: If cartons are on a pallet, they will be addressed through in-line, and if they are something different in shape or size comes then robotic arms will take care of it while moving on that same pallet. This will save time while palletizing higher volumes. The slowest machine can stack eight to eleven products a minute. While the fastest can go up to 150 cases a minute and the average lies in between.
To make any automated system work, there is only one requirement and that is consistency. Ensure that there is an alignment in products that are being palletized on a conveyor’s belt. If every coming product is varying from previous then it will cost you both time and money. Therefore, make sure that everything in your warehouse should be fully functional from manufacturing to palletizing to transportation as it offers smooth and optimized productivity.
Warehouse tips and toes:
To optimize your manufactures, you require a peaceful and functional warehouse. For this, ensure a smooth flow, proficiency, and accessibility in your warehouse.
Manufacturing is a giant baby which needs a spacious environment to breathe and function. Buy or rent maximum space you can afford, considering all the needs of your baby from storage, stocks, pallet storage, labor areas, officers, working areas, transfer areas, etc.
Vertical racking on pallets and warehouses is also getting fame since they allow more space on the ground. It becomes easier for cargo trucks to maneuver around your warehouse without damaging or ceasing the other ongoing work.
Review your manufactures and your warehouse continually. Whether it be a placement of equipment or flow of your processes/policies or your employee’s productivity; keep reviewing all of them in an equal interval of time.
If your business is ready to streamline its manufacturing, palletizing and transportation then it’s time to figure out what type of robot your manufacture company needs. Before making any purchase of automated systems; it is necessary to know your requirements from the robots, it's software and the space you will be able to sanction it. It’s good to know that all the details beforehand rather buying and wasting in the future. Research has shown that custom-made robots are way more profiting than generic ones. Therefore, make a visit to the companies that specialize in robotic palletizers that understands material handling integration.
