Suicide is the 10th leading cause of deaths in America today. 121 people will die from suicide today, tomorrow and every day of the year. Mental health is such an important topic. We need to continue to battle the stigma of mental illness and work towards preventing suicides.
I have worked with a wonderful lady named Susan Hudik for many years. When my brother died from suicide she was such a comfort to me. Because of my experience and those of other friends who lost amazing people to this horrible death, she started something.
It started as a whisper. Like a drop of water that roars into a waterfall, she made a few key chains and sent them to me to give out. They contained the word "HOPE" and had the suicide prevention number hand stamped on each of them. I was so touched I cried. My heart was so full from this sweet gesture of support and friendship.
I handed them out to my friends and family at my uncle's funeral. My uncle attempted suicide on my brother's (who lost his battle with depression to suicide 4.5 years ago) birthday. The impact on my family has been emotionally overwhelming to say the least. To ultimately lose two people we love to suicide is indescribable. Handing the key chains out to others was empowering. If it helped ONE person, just ONE...
Susan is the owner of Bling Chicks they make personalized jewelry, apparel and gifts. She has several mental health pieces including some semicolon jewelry that she makes in her studio, but she is now offering the "HOPE" key chains for free to anyone who buys a piece of jewelry from the website.
She doesn't want to charge money for these. She didn't want to make a fuss over this amazing gesture. Her spirit is so beautiful. I want to make a fuss, and I want to scream from the rooftops for the love and support she is showing to strangers. What an amazing heart. There are no words to tell you what her kindness has meant to me, and my family.
I hope you will help me in supporting this amazing woman, and her business. Join the movement she has started for mental illness and suicide prevention. If you don't want to buy something, help us share the video below. The mission is to help someone who needs to know that they are loved.
