Fixing These Problems with Your Bedroom Could Help You Get Better Sleep

Aromatherapy can only do so much when it comes to getting better sleep. If you really want to sleep soundly through the night, you should also take a look at how your bedroom is set up.

You probably already know that your diet and exercise routine can affect your sleeping habits. The same holds true for your bedroom. Creating an environment that is conducive to sleep can make a big difference in how well rested you feel when you get up in the morning.

If you aren't convinced that your sleeping environment plays a role in the quality of your sleep, think about the last time you crashed on the couch at a friend's house or slept in a hotel. In those cases, the setting where you were sleeping most likely affected your ability to sleep.

The same holds true at home. Fortunately, there are a lot of different steps that you can take to transform your bedroom into the ideal sleeping environment. Consider the five problems listed below to see if they apply to your situation. If so, taking steps to correct them could help you get a lot better sleep at night.

1. Your Mattress Is Worn Out

Laying on an old, lumpy mattress is a sure-fire recipe for a sleepless night. If you can't get comfortable, you won't be able to fall asleep. Shopping for a new mattress can be a little bit challenging since there are so many options available. If you aren't sure which type of mattress is best, consider reading the tips and information provided by the Better Sleep Council and doing some research by reading reviews of mattresses such as Bensons for Beds. This will help you identify the right type of mattress for your needs.

2. There Is Too Much Light in The Room

Ideally, your bedroom should be pitch black when you go to sleep. Light can interfere with the amount of melatonin that your body makes. This hormone plays a key role in regulating your sleep cycle. If you have streetlights outside your room, using blackout shades is a great way to block out the light. You should also avoid using electronic devices with lighted screens at bedtime. The blue light emitted by the screens can make it practically impossible to sleep.

3. The Temperature Is Wrong

If your body is too hot or too cold, falling asleep is difficult. According to the National Sleep Foundation, you should set the temperature in your room at approximately 65 deg. Experiment with different temperatures to see which one is the most comfortable for you since everyone has different preferences.

4. There Is A Problem with The Feng Shui Of Your Room

Even if you don't believe in the idea of feng shui, setting up your room to promote better energy flow through the space can create a better sleeping environment. If you are having trouble sleeping, it is worth checking out the feng shui guidelines for setting up a bedroom. You may find that it helps you sleep better at night.

5. Your Bedroom is Painted A Disruptive Colour

As strange as it may sound, the colour of your bedroom could have an impact on your ability to sleep. According to some studies that have been done, blue is the best colour for promoting sleep. Yellow and green are also good choices. Colours that you might want to avoid include grey, purple, and brown.
