The disruption of Pelosi's press conference yesterday has lead to a debate on whether or not this was a "good strategy". The critique is that Nacy Pelosi is pushing for a Dream Act and is also a Democrat so she shouldn't have been attacked.
However, the passing of a Dream Act is used as a pawn in congress. For example, it has been rumored that Trump is willing to work for a Dream Act if he gets things in return such as his wall, increase in the budget for mass deportation raids, etc. Protesters confronted Pelosi with this same concern. They said "First you said you supported a clean Dream Act. And last week you announced that you had agreed and I quote you, ‘To work out a package of border security.’ Your words. Or were you misquoted?”
Protesters held signs saying "FIGHT 4 ALL 11 MILLION" and "DEMOCRATS DEPORT". They chanted "Nothing with us without us" and "We are not a bargaining chip". The reality is that many have undocumented loved ones who don't qualify for DACA, thus they are left in the shadows. Dreamer families shouldn't be told they should be satisfied with the idea of the Dream Act. A CLEAN NO STRINGS ATTACHED Dream act is needed and should not put at risk the rest of the undocumented population who isn't eligible for DACA. Those who would benefit from the Dream Act are tired and aware of congress using them for their own political gain. They aren't willing to support a bill who puts their loved ones at risk, even if they are given a path to citizenship. Dreamers will keep fighting. Dreamers will keep holding representatives accountable, regardless of party affiliation.
