3 Simple Meals You Can Make Without a Stove

Whether you’re trying to survive during a power outage, have a campfire going out in the backyard or simply just don’t want to turn on the stove, it is just good to know how to cook over an open flame. Although many consider getting the fire started to be the hard part, most don’t know what to do when it comes time to prepare a savory meal.

If you are in search of easy campfire recipes that can be prepared in under an hour with items that you already have handy, you have come across some pretty helpful information. So, get out your pots, pans, paring knives and oven mitts and get ready to make three fast and filling campfire recipes that require little experience.

Flame Broiled Fish

If you’re used to buying your fish filleted at the grocery store, you might not know how to proceed when it comes to preparing fresh caught fish. The good news is that you only need some seasonings and a little bit of ingenuity to bring out the flavors in fish that is cooked over a campfire. There’s no need to remove the head, tail or even the scales, but you may want to remove the innards so that your fish can be cooked evenly. Using foil, a pan or even a stick, you can cook whole fish over the campfire and delight in how wonderful this meal tastes.  A little salt and pepper is all that is really needed to season fresh fish, but if you have lemon juice that will also help to bring out its natural flavors.

Savory Meat Skewers

Kebabs are another easy meal to prepare when cooking without a stove. You’ll need protein of some kind, whether it be lamb, fish, chicken, pork or beef. After you have cut your meat into chunks, you should use bell peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, and mushrooms to begin building your meat skewers. Some people enjoy marinating their skewers for a few hours in Worcestershire sauce to add intense flavor before charring them over an open flame. You can enjoy a balanced meal that isn’t difficult to prepare by making meat skewers over a campfire.

Fried Potato Hash

Potatoes are filling and versatile, and they make for an especially yummy meal when cooked in the great outdoors. You will probably spend more time prepping your potatoes than actually cooking them, but when all is said and done the effort will be worth it. After you have peeled and chopped up a few potatoes, wash the diced up pieces with water. You can add some onion to your potato hash for extra flavor as well. Coat a pan with a bit of oil or butter, then sauté the potato hash until it is crisp yet tender.

Most of your meals might be prepared on a traditional stove, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find cooking over a campfire to be just as rewarding. Be mindful of getting too close to the flames while you cook, keep oven mitts handy and think about how much your friends will enjoy these fast and simple recipes. Put away those cans of pork and beans and make something that you will remember during your next camping trip.
