11 Simple Ways To Be A Better Person

1. Compliment people in front of others.

For some reason compliments hold more weight when they’re done in front of other people. It’s nice to be nice.

2. Participate.

The people who organize events always worry that no one will take part. What would an event be if no one showed up? Trust me, that ugly sweater contest or bake-off needs you!

3. Don’t butt in or give advice when you’re not asked for it.

Have confidence in others; trust that they are fully capable of being in charge of their own lives.

4. Give your mom a shout out on your birthday.

After all, she deserves some credit for your life. It was a big day for her too!

5. Become an organ donor (& tell your family).

Complete someone’s puzzle by becoming an organ, eye, and tissue donor. Give the ultimate gift of life!

6. Slow way down when you drive past a pedestrian.

35mph can seem like the Indy 500 to a woman walking her dog and children often don’t understand that it takes time for a vehicle to stop. Kids are not little adults; don’t expect them to act as adults do.

7. Ask someone “how are you?” Mean it and listen.

Ask a follow-up question. How we respond when someone answers can let them know we really do or don’t care at all.

8. Pause and give people the benefit of the doubt.

Modern technology, especially, can cause unintentional feather ruffling. We are often quick to judge, quick to doubt, and quicker to jump to our own conclusions. Leave no room in your mind to bring others down. Always think the best of each other.

9. Be kind to yourself.

Make peace with your past mistakes. Speak kindly about yourself – your soul needs your love and approval.

10. Bite your tongue.

Pause before speaking or writing when you are mad, agitated, or doubtful. A moment of patience in a moment of anger prevents a thousand moments of regret – Be aware of your emotional state before you act.

11. Give this world good energy.

When we encounter negative energy we are left feeling subpar and less than the best version of ourselves. Positive daily interactions allow so many things to fall into place: energy levels, confidence, rapport, and even effective job performance. Be kind, even when people are mean.

Made my day! I find putting things in perspective can help me a lot. To do that, sometimes I will just look at the sky. Realizing we are one planet among many in the middle of space reminds me to slow down, enjoy life, and be gracious to people.

I’m a twenty-something, making waves in the landlocked expanse of KCMO. I like to hang out with people who make me forget to look at my phone.
