Early on in my experience as a spoken word poet, I realized that my lipstick, or SlamStick, was my secret weapon. Colouring in my lips gave me the power to speak my experiences blunt and open. I eventually started to make the lipstick I wanted to see in the world and wearing these shades to all of my gigs. Soon other folks wanted some SlamStick of their own, so I started selling my wears at merch tables at poetry shows across Canada. Now, I run a small Etsy shop and supply some local boutiques in my hometown, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Each SlamStick is handmade by me at home using local and organic ingredients. The shades are named using lines from my original poetry. The current line includes: Take Out the Garbage (Peachy-Pink), Is This Aggressive Enough for you? (Brick-Orange Red), Feminist Sea Patrol (Green-Black Shimmer), Thigh-High Wonderful (Purple-Black Shimmer), Magic Trick (Gold Glitter), and our colorless lip mask Emergency Candles. This is a moisturizing formula with the focus on comfortable lip-wear filled with shea butter and coconut oil.
