Interviewing today is oftentimes unstructured, time-intensive and prone to bias. The technical interview process has become a burden for companies and frustrating for candidates. At Karat, we've combined rich data and research with our shared experiences across engineering, recruiting and consulting to create the world's largest technical interviewing solution. We are the trusted, consistent Interview Engineer who conducts the first round of interviews on behalf of top engineering organizations. By making technical interviewing a dedicated job, we highlight its importance to both companies and candidates. The more interviews we complete, the more consistent data we have to help every client build world class hiring processes.

Unlocking Opportunity

Karat’s purpose is to unlock opportunity, for both hiring companies and candidates. Karat helps connect the best people to right organizations so together they can grow, thrive, and change the world.

We believe the interview status quo is deeply flawed, hindering the potential for individuals and organizations to truly thrive. Interviews are opportunities to change lives. But expert software engineers aren’t necessarily expert interviewers, and software engineering time is crucial for business growth. Most engineering leaders view interviews as a drain on company financials and team morale. Many organizations are unable to conduct the number of interviews with the quality and consistency required to hire great team members, creating an Interview Gap.

The Interview Gap forces shortcuts and limits access to interviews. Inconsistent interviews and restrictive screening processes inject bias and lock organizations out of robust, diverse talent pipelines, creating an Access Gap. These artificial barriers contribute to the growing inequality in the world by locking talented, diverse candidates out of life-changing jobs.

Social impact

Karat is partnering with leaders in industry and academia to provide $1 million worth of technical interview practice for Black software engineers each year. Our goal is to advance career opportunities and technical growth for computer science students and early career professionals who haven’t had access to the same preparation and resources enjoyed by many of their peers.

We are proud to partner with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) such as Howard University and organizations like Jopwell, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), INROADS, and InternHacks. Together, our efforts help underrepresented engineering candidates prepare for the interview experience and accelerate their path to success.
