We invite you to apply to our incredible summer internship. During this internship, you will be immersed in a creative environment and meet with our executive board on a daily basis. You will also have the opportunity to work on innovative initiatives that we're releasing this summer, such as "EdUcate," which works to provide elementary-school-aged kids with brief video recaps about what happened that day around the world. If you are applying for one of our initiatives, detailed below, you must fit the requirements unless stated otherwise.
We are partnering with SDSN youth, the United Nations, and the Global Schools Program to further this effort. At NYAToday, we believe that kids should be informed about the world around them, and how they can make a difference. With Educate, we will create videos of 1-5mins describing what happened that day. 1 minute will be a simple recap, while 5 minutes will go into more depth about the implications of the event. We also will have an entire section of this initiative dedicated to clear, objective descriptions of complex current events (such as the war in Syria, climate change, consent, etc).
- Collaborate in a team-centered environment to create content with an impact
- Work with our marketing team to discuss the ideal way to reach kids
- Create videos (optional) for release
- Strong background in journalism
- Videographer experience (only necessary for those specifically applying for this role)
- Passion for learning about the world around them and translating their knowledge into clear information for kids
"_____: Do Better"
This is a series that we're releasing in the spring that works to engage people in uncomfortable but necessary conversations about privilege. We plan to put ads & street art across major cities like NYC, Melbourne, Vienna, Toronto, Los Angeles, Singapore, Geneva, Seattle, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Vancouver, Paris, London, Sydney, Johannesburg, Helsinki, Zurich, Oslo, Chicago, Copenhagen, and Tokyo. We're releasing an entire magazine detailing what people with privilege can do to fight for those who do not have that privilege (and to elevate their voices). Topics include things like "White Women, Do Better"; "Cis-Women, Do Better"; "Non-Disabled People, Do Better." We need this team to be fairly large to encompass all of the topics, and we're looking to start this project immediately. If you are in any of the cities mentioned above, we strongly encourage you to apply.
- Follow specific timeline for completing assignments each week
- Meet with fellow team-members on a weekly basis to share ideas and set tasks/goals to be completed that week
We strongly encourage people of color to apply to this role, but we believe that white people should ultimately tell people of their own race what to do. It's not POC's job to tell white people about their privilege.
Please send any applications to firstname.lastname@example.org. Send your CV, Cover Letter, and a piece of writing that you have done in the past year.
NYAToday is a news organization that is working to break down boundaries in education, create a more informed younger generation, and encourage youth to act on their beliefs. We provide informative, free content written by fellow teens about global affairs with ways to act at the bottom of each article. This way, our readers, even from a young age, learn about the importance of activism and the world around them. We're a network that is proud of our diverse staff (we have a female CEO and are overwhelmingly POC) and celebrate how many teens we've reached (30,000).
