Ironwood is a patient-focused, biopharmaceutical company on a mission to push the boundaries of the gastrointestinal (GI) field by advancing the treatment of GI diseases and redefining the standard of care for millions of patients. With our singular focus and a passionate leadership team that has extensive GI experience, we have an intimate understanding of the patient journey, and are making progress towards our mission every day and continue to challenge what has been done before to shape what the future holds. So, we named ourselves after the Ironwood tree, which can live for thousands of years in the harshest desert, creating a shaded microclimate in which life thrives. Iron, like science, is undeniable and strong. Wood, like artistry and humanity, is flexible, resilient and versatile. The two words together represent our passion for making a positive impact on the health – and lives- of GI patients, their families and communities. Equally as important as the work we do, is how we do it. Ironwood promotes a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture in which every Ironwoodian can feel a sense of belonging. We are committed to expanding our talent network and celebrating diverse perspectives, backgrounds and ways of thinking. Having diverse talent and respecting all voices at every level within the company is not just an imperative to the future success of our business or broader society; it is simply the right thing to do.
Ironwood is a healthcare company dedicated to making a difference for people living with GI disease.
Our vision is clear: bring new, differentiated therapies to the millions of patients who live with GI diseases. Our in-market product, LINZESS® (linaclotide), discovered in-house, is the branded prescription market leader in its class.
We don’t just care about what we do—we care about how we do it. Our core company values, far from being empty words on a website or slideshow, are actually core to the way we do business.
Excellence, collaboration, commitment to compliance in all we do, ownership and a clear focus on our vision to become THE Leading GI Healthcare Company in the U.S. are a part of daily life at Ironwood.
We achieve our mission through the core values that guide us. These are much more than words or concepts, these are the staples for how we approach our work individually and with each other.
Ownership - Drive outstanding long-term value
Collaboration - Achieve more together
Innovation - Make a difference for patients
Excellence - Foster greatness in each other
Humanity - Act with honesty, integrity and respect
At Ironwood, equality, diversity, and inclusion are integral to who we are and the values we hold as a company. We are committed to creating an environment where you can bring your whole self to work, every day. No matter what your background or experience, we want Ironwood to be a place where you feel supported, challenged, and empowered to make your mark.
We believe that the unique attributes and viewpoints of each team member facilitates the development of innovative ideas that will help us to discover and deliver breakthrough therapies for patients and build the next great pharmaceutical company.
We want our employees to be healthy and happy, so we offer a comprehensive benefits program that is designed with our employees and their families in mind.
Choices! Our health plans include HMO, PPO and PPO Saver plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield. We also have FSA plans to help with medical and dependent care expenses. Don’t forget your teeth and eyes – they need to stay healthy, too, so we offer programs for them. We also offer disability benefits and life insurance.
We all work hard, and we know the importance of taking time to relax and unwind. We offer generous vacation and sick time as well as a weeklong holiday shutdown. If you just need a quick rest, we have a nap room on site.
There are generous paternity, maternity and adoption leave benefits to help with your new family.
In our building there is a free gym and a weekly yoga class. We also offer a generous fitness stipend, if you prefer to workout elsewhere and we offer a discounted membership to Bluebikes.
At Ironwood, each employee is an owner – we offer equity in the form of restricted stock to every employee, a matching 401(k) Savings & Retirement plan as well as a twice a year opportunity to buy company shares through our employee stock purchase plan at a discounted price.
Education, Uniqueness, and More
Education is important, but expensive, so to help you reach your goals we offer a generous tuition reimbursement program for education relevant to your job and our industry.
Dress code? We have an informal corporate culture which is reflected in our relaxed approach to a dress code. We appreciate the uniqueness of our employees and want you to be yourself at work.
We offer assistance with commuting, whether it’s by car, mass transit, bike or even if you walk, you get a commuter stipend! This generous stipend will give you options no matter how you chose to travel and you may have a little left over for dinner, a show or shopping which is abundant in downtown Boston.
Ironwood stands together against racism, in all of its forms. To combat this requires that all of us take action. Ironwood is actively seeking to donate funds to organizations working towards racial equality. Our goal is to put resources in the hands of those that share our mission and are engaged in the following areas: improving access to healthcare, improving access to education and technology, programs for equal opportunity to grow wealth, and programs enabling food access, housing security and criminal justice reform.
ISTAR is a multi-dimensional, enduring, and impactful initiative that is apolitical and company unifying. It will be founded upon three fundamental Pillars of Action: 1. Speaking up and Speaking Out, 2. Giving Back and Reflecting, and 3. Supporting Those Fighting Inequality.
Ironwood Day of Service--This year Ironwood hosted a day of service on August 18th - GI-ving Day! We worked together to supply respite centers across the country with food and other supplies for their clients, most of whom are recovering from recent emergency care.
