About me
I grew up in the State of Maine as one of nine children raised solely by our Mother. I starting earning my own money at the age of 11. I moved to Washington, DC shortly after graduating from high school. I worked in DC for 14 years on Capitol Hill, in presidential campaigns, and in some private businesses. When I first began to work on Capitol Hill, I felt and was tremendously inadequate and uninformed. Capitol Hill has the smartest and best employees. I had to teach myself and learn quickly. When I was 30, I decided to become a single parent by choice. I quickly decided that I could not spend so much time working and commuting and still be a good parent. So, when my son turned 15 months old, I brought him home to Maine. Income in Maine was one half of what I had earned in DC. I had to take a lower level job so that I would have the time to spend with my son. I took courses at the local college and slowly worked my way up to a more responsible and interesting job. The pay increased but certainly not to the level it needed to be. Finally, someone recognized my abilities and gave me a job that fit my abilities and challenged me. My son graduated from one of the very best colleges in the United States and is a strong, honest and good person. I retired and ran for our state legislature. I didn't success, but it was a very rewarding experience. I will be 70 years old next month. I have lived a rewarding and interesting life but, for women of my age, it has been a struggle. Things have improved for our young women, but when I look and listen to Donald Trump I see and hear the kind of man I had to put up with for most of my life. Us women have come so far and grown so much. To now have a man of the 1950s mindset be our President today is an insult to all us women and the young men of today. I believe that the majority of Americans are better than this -- we deserve better than this.
