When I was younger, I desperately wanted to be a writer. I loved collecting and telling stories to my friends and family and couldn't envision myself doing anything else. Though my aspirations have since changed, my love for reading and writing still continues to play a major role in my decisions and who I am. What were your childhood dreams and how have they impacted who you are today?

When I was younger, I always wanted to be a lawyer. Coming from a family of lawyers, hearing about my relatives’ day to day cases would thoroughly excite me as a child. To this day, I find that the profession is truly an extraordinary one as it allows me to advocate for other people’s rights and voices.

@heyy_itstinni It's always special to have those around you set a strong example. Law is an incredibly influential position and we really need more lawyers dedicated to change in our community and in our courtrooms. Knowing you, I'm confident you'll do great things in this field. Is there a specific field of law you're interested in? How has this changed over the years?

When i was younger I really wanted to become a doctor. I would always draw myself as a doctor helping people during school but now I get dizzy when I see blood :(.

@winnie liu That sounds adorable, I can just imagine those drawings. I love how much of our childhood dreams were captured in sloppy cartoon drawings. That’s disappointing but I’m sure you’ll find a field you wholeheartedly love and thrive in. Do you think you’d still like to work in a field of medicine? Maybe pharmaceuticals or something like that?

@rjain2 That's really unique. I love that you're finding a way to incorporate your childhood dream into your current aspirations too. Was there a reason you were interested in cooking? How did you discover your interest in business?

My dad loves to cook; thus, he would teach me how to create unique meals with numerous techniques which arouse my interest for cooking. After taking courses related to business such as economics and accounting, I discovered my excitement for the field.

I feel like we all wanted to be our parents at one point or another. (Though I'd still love to be like my mom, even if it terrifies me a little.) That's why I love electives too; they let us find those hidden passions and figure out what we'll excel in.

To be honest, I still want to be a writer! I've wanted to ever since I was in 3rd grade, when my teacher (who is a published author) assigned us a Publish-Your-Own-Book Project. I think storytelling is such an important aspect of our lives, and being able to do that as a career would simply be a dream come true for me!

@Danielle Tran I hope I'll be able to read your book someday. I love that you brought up your teacher because our teachers truly have such a huge impact on who we are. Who was your third-grade teacher? Is there a specific genre you'd like to publish in?

@Kaushikee My third grade teacher was Cindy Neuschwander, the author of the picture book series, Sir Cumference, and a number of other picture books. I completely agree with your point of how huge of an impact teachers have in our lives. Although mathematic picture books aren't exactly the genre I'm interested in, Mrs. Neuschwander played such an incredible role in my life!! I really love realistic fiction novels, whether it be children's or YA, so that definitely would be one of the genres I'd like to publish in. :)

As the incredible person you are, I was wondering: What are some of the influential role models in your life? Is there a specific career you are leaning towards now that your aspirations have changed?

When I was younger, I wanted to be a writer too! In elementary school I wrote my first book and knew that I would always enjoy literature. I still aspire to become a fiction writer, or study in liberal arts.

@billie chang As someone who wants to pursue a higher education in the liberal arts as well, I've received pressure from parents and advisors to pursue a stem path. Given the common belief that stem education is more likely to guarantee success, have you received any similar pressure? How do you respond to it?

@billie chang I love that! I hope I'll get to read your novels in the future. It's amazing that you found and stuck to a passion so early on. Was there a specific novel or author who inspired you?

When I was younger, I wanted to be everything from a fashion designer to the next President! As I grew older, I realized that, yes, I did want to help people, but more in the realm of medicine :)

@Amulya Vallabhaneni I completely understand where you're coming from. I've always been motivated to make a difference though the semantics of how I'll achieve this in a career remains ambiguous. Is there a specific medical field you're interested in?

I really wanted to be a marine biologist because we had guest speakers in that profession come to my elementary school. Now I'm pursuing engineering. Everything can change in a few years!

@megan fannin I couldn't agree more. My goals and priorities have changed so much these past few years, I can't imagine where they'll be by the time I finish high school. I feel like there's a lot of pressure to know what you want to do by the time you graduate high school, do you think this is realistic?

@Mihika Sharma I completely feel. The realization that I wouldn't be able to be a neuroscientist, human rights lawyer, teacher, superhero ballerina, and write a few novels on the side was crushing. With your ambition and talents, I have no doubt you'll be able to accomplish all your dreams though.

My childhood dream was to be a full-time singer, part-time writer, and a chemist! I wanted to do it all – to some extent, I still do!
