I have to answer this question for an assignment. I was hoping to hear your input, because although I personally believe the environment is more important, how would you argue that the economy is more important? Please leave your suggestions!

This is definitely an intriguing question. While I agree with you that prioritizing temporary economic prosperity over the potential for environmental damage can be detrimental, I think there is a middle ground to consider. If I had to argue for the economy being a greater priority, I would mention that without economic stability paths to environmental reform are unlikely to be favored. For lasting environmental protection, allowing economic growth is important. Also, environmental protection shouldn't disadvantage countries whose economies are still developing. However, I do wholeheartedly believe that protecting the environment should be an utmost priority. Finding economic practices that benefit, or at least don't damage, the environment should be a greater priority.

Agreed! That's the line of reasoning I was thinking of using as well.

I believe that the environment is more important than the economy since without a good and healthy environment life on Earth will not be sustainable.

I think the environment plays a huge part on the economy. For example, different types of climates are better for differenr economies. A city near the water could prosper off of fishing. Therefore the environment is more important.

I totally see where you're coming from! If you had to argue the opposite, what would you say?

I believe that the environment is more important to preserve than our economy as well. My main line of reasoning is that a healthy environment is a prerequisite for a healthy economy; with sustainability comes the opportunity to contribute to the nation's wealth.
